Daniel Mobbs is a faculty member at both Portland State University and the University of Portland, where he specializes in Bel Canto repertoire and techniques. His training in this classical vocal tradition comes from esteemed sources, including Conductor and musicologist Will Crutchfield, and The Caramoor Summer Music Festival.
At both institutions, Daniel is recognized for his expertise in refining vocal technique and his ability to convey the nuanced artistry of Bel Canto. His pedagogical approach integrates historical performance practices with contemporary techniques, offering students a comprehensive understanding of this sophisticated vocal style.
In addition to his teaching roles, Daniel founded CantiamoPDX, a summer training program dedicated to advancing Bel Canto skills. Through CantiamoPDX, he provides a focused environment where singers can hone their craft under expert guidance, furthering their technical proficiency and interpretative depth.
Daniel's commitment to education extends beyond the classroom, as he actively participates in workshops, masterclasses, and community outreach. His work reflects a dedication to cultivating excellence in vocal performance and nurturing the next generation of Bel Canto practitioners.
"Cantiamo" is the Italian Verb for singing. "Let's Sing" or "We sing."
We are thrilled to announce that our inaugural CantiamoPDX summer program, held from July 2-28, 2024, was a resounding success! Over the course of 15 intense hours, participants immersed themselves in the rich vocal traditions of the 19th Century Bel Canto period, engaging in both group work and individual masterclass sessions. Singers honed their skills in trills, agility, portamento, appoggiatura, and more, culminating in a free concert showcasing their refined repertoire.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, we were able to offer partial or full scholarships to all participants this year. For Summer 2025, we are excited to announce that CantiamoPDX will be completely tuition-free!
Details on how to apply for our Summer 2025 program will be available in the new year. For any questions or further information, please contact us at: DanielMobbs11@gmail.com
